Some of Bahia Asuncion's Sport Teams

The Lobos Marinos -- The Mountain Bike Team

Picture
Introducing the  Lobos Marinos, the Mountain Bike Team.  The team includes members from pre-school age to masters over the age of fifty.  They are one of the 8 teams in the Mulege District, complete in meets all over the district, at times compete in State competitions.  They travel from Guerrero Negro to La Paz.  They are a dedicated group of people who out of necessity often share equipment.  With the harsh Vizcaino Biosphere desert and sea environment, maintaining the bikes is a constant battle.
There is a great mountain biking racing trail in the village as shown in the photos above, and the team members LOVE to share the trail and ride with visitors.  So when you visit, bring your mountain bike and be prepared to ride with some very friendly people.
And if you happen to have any extra mountain bike parts, gloves, helmet or maybe even a no longer used bike, they are thrilled to receive any and all donations.  The best place to deliver any donations is to Jesus Monreal Mata/ "Chayo" at his tackle shop at the beginning of our town or at his Capenter shop just a few blocks west of the tackle shop.   He and/or Ema will welcome you with open arms.  Chayo is a Champion Master mountain bike rider, the leader of the Lobos Marinos, an abalone fisherman, runs the tackle shop with Emma, an excellent furniture and cabinet maker, and still finds the time to repair all the team bikes, and builds "new" bikes from parts.   This is a very positive activity for our youth.

Jurjos -- The Surfing Team

Picture
Introducing "Jurjos", the surf team; it is a great group of young and the not so young lovers of surfing.  When possible, they compete in surf competitions all over Baja California Sur.  And, recently the Jurjos hosted their Fourth Annual Surf Tournament which always includes all ages and a boogie board competition. All are welcome to compete in their tournaments.
There are a few places right in town to surf when the conditions are right, but the favorite surf spot is Punta Choros just a few miles south of town.  It is also a great place to camp!  If the surf is up, team members will be there to surf with you.  This is another very positive activity for our youth.
So if you surf, bring your boards and the team members will take good care of you.  And if you have an extra wet-suit hanging around, or an old boogie board or surf board in any condition, be sure to bring them with you.   Donations are well used and very appreciated.
The best place to leave any donation is with one of the officers of the team, Jamie Morales Villavicencio, at his home that is also his carpenter shop.   Jamie is the local Biosphere Representative, an excellent furniture and cabinet maker, avid surfer and dedicated to the youth of the town. Besides making sure your donation goes to the proper place, he is very good at repairing damaged boards, and even makes new boards.  In his front yard, he has also built the only skateboard ramp in town for the children.
To find Jamie, follow the main street through town, past the Secondary School.  Turn left on the first long block past the school.  Then look for the skateboard ramp he built---easy to spot.  Or, just ask anyone in town, and they will get you there.
